Neurosky Mindset Processing Library

The Interactive Art group at CITAR, recently bought a Neurosky Mindset device (it's a headset that reads the brainwave activity) and, because there were no available Processing libraries to fetch the brainwave data I decided to implement my own.

So... here's the MindsetProcessing library.

DiABlu Mailman 0.5 released!

DiABlu Mailman 0.5 has been released!

This is a tool, aimed primarily at digital artists, that allows sending files to bluetooth devices and receiving files. It uses OSC to communicate with applications so any OSC-capable application can send and receive files.

The youtube videos give a small perspective on what the tool allows: Demo1, Demo2. Demo1 features a Pure Data application that receives images from bluetooth devices and shows them in a rotating cube. Demo2 features a Processing application that allows sending a text file to any device of a given manufacturer.

Mailman itself is written in Java and uses the Bluecove bluetooth library and Netutil OSC library.

This tool is a part of the DiABlu Project been developed at CITAR.

Public Sound Objects at Casa da MÃºsica: Exame InformÃ¡tica

The Public Sound Objects project installed at the Casa da Música will appear on the next issue of Exame Informática.

In the installation at Casa da Música the following people participated:

Álvaro Barbosa - The project's author.

Jorge Cardoso - The guy (me) that implemented it all in Java.

Jorge Abade - The guy that designed those nice looking orange stands for the Mac computers.

DiABlu Scout

Forgot to mention this in the last post:

The previous DiABlu Server is now called DiABlu Scout (due to a change in project definition) and it has changed some funcionality:

- It does not allow connections from DiABlu Mobile (dead, for now)

+ It now detects the type of Bluetooth device (major and minor classes)

+ It now detects the manufacturer of the Bluetooth hardware

DiABlu Scout and LegOSC

I have updated the DiABlu project website with one new tool: DiABlu LegOSC.

LegOSC is a tool that works as an OSC gateway for the Lego Mindstorms NXT, allowing any OSC capable program to control the robot and read sensor values.

I'm working on a new version of the Public Sound Objects installation that will be on display in Casa da Música under the portuguese designation [Objectos Sonoros Partilhados] that is part of the ExposiSom, from 01 October 2007 to 03 January 2008.

Basically, you will be able to play a piano without having to know how to play a piano. All you have to do is "play" with a graphical user interface on a computer. Besides playing the piano you will also be able to play with four other people at the same time, since there will be various interface points along the corridors! Hopefully, it will not result in a total cacophony...

Show Dot Some Love

Jorge Coutinho, a student of mine, has developed an interactive video installation that uses the DiABlu System to detect presence.

The project is called Show Dot Some Love and was implemented using Processing.

Basically, it represents people as spheres on a screen. These spheres are all attracted to another special sphere: Dot.
