Finalmente! O meu livro sobre programação Java para telemóveis está cá fora...

Escrever o livro foi a parte mais fácil (e motivante). O processo até ser finalmente publicado é mais enervante.

Passaram quase dois anos desde que acabei de o escrever. Entretanto: arranjar editora: esperar...; rever o livro duas vezes (é o que dá escrever em LaTeX e depois a editora apenas trabalhar com Word...); esperar...; ver a primeira prova; esperar...; definir a capa; esperar...; esperar...; esperar...; e vê-lo finalmente à venda.

A espera é desesperante mas absolutamente necessária. A qualidade não pode ser apressada, pelo menos se for esse o cunho que se pretende "imprimir" nos livros editados.

O próximo vai ser mais fácil, as expectativas estarão mais próximas da realidade.

Networking and Push Registry

I started out by putting these two topics -- networking and push registry -- on the same chapter, but in the end I decided to break them apart.

The chapter was too big and I think it makes sense to separate the two. The push registry is seldomly used, so there's no point in cluttering the networking chapter with that.

I also updated the RMS chapter and am now working on the Multimedia one.

Chapter 7 and 8 Out!

I've finished chapters 7 and 8 of my Portuguese MIDP Book.

Chapter 7 is about the Record Management System, and I'll probably add some examples about listeners, but the rest is finished (I think).

Chapter 8 is about Threads, nothing very specific to MIDP, but since threads are important for networking (the next chapter) I thought it would be better to put it in a separate chapter.

I'm working on Chapter 9 -- Networking -- now.

Chapter 6 is Out!

Ok, I still haven't finished Chapter 6... :(

You try to describe the CustomItem class... it's a pain in the a$$! I still haven't quite figured out how that viewport and visRect_inout really work. The documentation is not that big a help. I'll try to go directly to the source: the Reference Implementation (if I can get it).
