Just got my first Android phone from TMN: the Samsung Galaxy Spica.

(The purchase went very smoothly: I ordered it online and payed during the weekend; on Monday I received an SMS message saying they received the money and later another one saying the item was shipped and an order tracking code to track it on the web; Tuesday the phone arrived. Just thought I'd mention this because we usually only complain when things go wrong and don't give credit when they go very well. So, congratulations TMN for a good service on this one.)

I had a problem with Visual Studio 2005 when trying to create an MFC Smart Device Application.

When I tried to create a project Visual Studio would simply return to the new project screen, eventually giving an error if I continued trying.

I tried some solutions I found on the Web, but none work, except the one that required me to uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.

I have recently bought a Palm Tungsten E2 PDA.

This is my first PDA so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I like it.
Its small, light, the applications show up fast, and it has all the programs I was looking for in a digital assistant: calendar, task list, notes. I use it in sync with Outlook.

One thing I didn't like was the fact that the screen of my Palm was making a strange noise. After searching the Web I found out that I wasn't the only one with that problem. This site reports the experience of many people and the workarounds for fixing the problem:Do you have a noisy Palm, too? In my case I used the WarpSpeed utility to get rid of the noise. Actually the noise didn't completely go away, but it was reduced to acceptable levels :).

When you use the HttpConnection class in MIDP to access a web page in a given URL, it might be the case that the URL points to a file that is actually located elsewhere. In these cases the HTTP response you get is not the page you were trying to access but a link to the new file.
The MIDP API does not follow page redirects automatically, its up to you to implement that.

I have written a small class that helps doing this.
To illustrate the use of this class see the following program (this code is only the run method of a class that is Runnable):

Netbeans with mobility pack gave me a headache today.

I made a fresh instalation of the J2SDK1.4, J2ME Wireless Toolkit 2.2 and NetBeans 5.0 beta 2 with the Mobility Pack (by this order), but when I tried to run a project, any project, I always got this "java.lang.SecurityException: untrusted domain is not configured".

I searched the foruns and tried some possible solutions: change the project folder to a folder that didn't not contain accented characters, change the users "Documents and Settings" folder, etc. But none of these worked.

Then I tried this: I went to the [Tools->Java Platform Manager]. Removed the J2ME Wireless Toolkit 2.2 platform. Then added it again. This combined with a project folder without accented characters (didn't have to change the user's Document and Settings folder) solved my problem!

Ufh!

My new Siemens S65 gave a lot of trouble.

I was triyng to connect it to the PC via Bluetooth, but the PC software (Mobile Phone Manager) wouldn't detect the phone even though it was successfully paired! Then I tried connecting with the DCA 510 cable -- the same happened! I was beginning to think my phone was malfunctioning. Also people to whom I talked on the phone said that the sound was very bad and the volume was very low...

Then I happened to switch off GPRS (I had the option on) and all the troubles went away :)

Now I can connect it via bluetooth (hadn't tried the cable yet but I bet its working) and the sound is back to normal.

Moral: Don't switch the GPRS option on! (I still don't know if that option keeps the phone from using GPRS when needed or if it is just to make it permanently connected via GPRS).
